Boy Band dive website

divezero.jpgA new website, http://www.divezero.com/, that aspires to be a “complete resource for the scuba world, including travel, dive gear, destinations, and the latest and greatest in the world of bubbles” has been launched. The site is heavy on flash and over done with just-because-we-can glitzy effects. Dive Zero.com is the main hub for connecting the Dive Village, Dive Zero TV, Dive Zero Magazine, and Dive Zero Images together. The about us link reveals the the Dive Zero team who look like a boy band fresh from the valley. The look of the team is not surprising becase the the rest of the site reflects a “I’m too sexy for my wetsuit” style. When I watched a few of the videos, I was not sure if I hadn’t left the dive zero site was onto a VH1 rock video. The site is also heavy on advertizing and the news links reveal only feeds from other sources. The online store is just image links to other online retailers. I think the sites technology and clear passion of the team holds great potential, but, unless your drysuit hood comes with attached beer cans of Bud, I would check back after the team matures a bit. Mr John McKenzie,
Before I begin, I do want to commend you on your very observant comments! In addition, I want to tell you that I am 43 years old, so thank you for the “boy band” compliment. One thing we try to do is value everyone’s input and I firmly believe that this will create success, so that’s what we have done, we’ve listened to the people and the people want something new and invigorating. I myself grew up filming and editing snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding and other “extreme” stuff and we applied that concept to diving (it is considered and extreme sport). Now that being said one of our partners Wally Schredl is also a PADI Platinum Course Director!….(you forgot to mention that, but he does have a nice boyish charm!) with well over 70,000 dives and he knows the industry very, VERY well, but being a web designer I am sure you already know that. Now don’t get me wrong people (and John) I am not hating on this thread, I actually like it cause it says we are on the right track…the future of this sport is in the youth of today and we set out to get the word out that scuba is cool and it defiantly deserves that!. What bothers me is your lack of investigation on who we are and what we are presenting, we are not boys hahha (even though we wish we were) we are professionals in the industry. You had also commented that you thought you were watching VH1 rock videos on the dive zero TV site! Well I am assuming you only watched one 3 minute program and didn’t bother to watch some others such as “The Undersea Hunter” or any of the “SEAL” videos, or maybe the Peter Hughs Videos! There’s so much more there John than just a few “boy band” style videos, I think you should have mentioned them as well instead of trying to create something that we are not! As a last note, you say “unless your dry suit hood comes with attached beer cans of Bud, I would check back after the team matures a bit.” humorous as that comment is I think you should watch what you say, we take diving very seriously and defiantly do NOT reflect that attitude (a nice cold beer after a dive doesn’t hurt John you should have one sometime) and lastly we have been up for just one month with over 6000 hits in the past 3 weeks, not bad for a new site! Thanks for the great review John … see ya at the Village!
